Scientists have come to an unexpected conclusion while studying the causes of depression and human happiness.

As it turns out, happy people are the least likely to experience symptoms of depression, and polite people are the ones who most often call themselves happy.

Turkish psychologists have found out which factors influence a person’s level of happiness, reports the journal Psychological Reports.

Politeness and happiness

According to experts, polite people consider themselves happier.

They often demonstrate a friendly attitude towards others, show compassion, and a willingness to cooperate.

To find out, scientists recruited a group of 372 volunteers, whose average age was 23 years.

After conducting a survey, they came to the conclusion that the more polite a person is, the weaker his signs of depression are.

Moreover, they experience symptoms of illness less frequently than others, and polite people feel happier than others.

The scientists intend to use their findings in further psychological research.

But they are in no hurry to talk about a cause-and-effect relationship between happiness, politeness and depression.
