It turns out that the temperature in our home directly affects cognitive abilities.
Elderly people are especially susceptible to this effect.
This is evidenced by the latest research data from scientists.
Based on their work, they concluded that the home microclimate in certain situations can pose a threat to the brain.
Experiment
The authors of the experiment involved 47 people aged 65 and older in the experiment.
Attention was paid to the temperature in their homes and self-assessed problems with concentration.
It turned out that older people solve problems that require concentration more effectively at home temperatures of +20 to +24 degrees.
The likelihood of developing attention problems increases by 2 times if the temperature is 4 degrees higher or lower than that specified above.
Scientists say that low-income citizens are most sensitive to such changes.
The reason they give for this is that this category of people often lack the resources to regulate their home temperature.
How to solve the problem
In this regard, researchers propose creating conditions to protect older people from temperature changes.
According to them, with rising global temperatures and an increasing number of elderly citizens, the above-mentioned factor may become key in the issue of preserving the cognitive abilities of the Earth's population.
As a possible solution, experts point to:
– increasing the energy efficiency of housing;
– implementation of smart home technologies to optimize the temperature regime in the room.
It is also proposed to expand citizens' access to cooling systems.
