There is a difference between people who are simply smart and people who are wise. How to tell one from the other is often unclear.
Wise people are usually called elderly people who lead a certain way of life or adhere to certain beliefs.
Is this enough to call a person wise, and what is hidden behind this concept, was found out by employees of the University of Waterloo.
The results of the work were published in Nature Communications.
Canadian scientists have found that wisdom is manifested in the ability to apply accumulated knowledge.
It also concerns the presence of logical thinking, control of emotions, feelings, and perception of others.
International studies have shown that these are the qualities that respondents in different regions indicated.
It is known that the survey was conducted among more than 2,700 people from 16 different countries.
Citizens of Canada and the United States, Ecuador and Peru, China and India, Japan and South Korea, as well as European countries and African countries were surveyed.
The survey asked people to evaluate the qualities of 10 people – famous scientists or politicians.
Moreover, regardless of the region, the choice was made in favor of the listed qualities.
The presence of a right or wrong answer in the survey was excluded.
