The dangers of information overload: scientists' dismal conclusions

The health of modern man is destroyed by unhealthy food, dirty air, stress, and information overload.

Scientists have identified the latter factor in new studies, proving that information overload can be compared to polluted air.

These are the conclusions reached by researchers at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA). The results of their work were published in the scientific journal Nature Human Behavior.

Researchers have concluded that information overload or information garbage is as damaging to human health as harmful substances in the environment.

The phenomenon owes its origin to access to the Internet, due to which a person consumes an unimaginable amount of information that he is not even able to assimilate and process.

What is the threat?

Information garbage is dangerous on a mental level. At the very least, a person stops evaluating information adequately.

Next, an inability to make decisions develops, the social circle narrows, dissatisfaction arises (with oneself, work, etc.), and problems with motivation arise.

As a result, information overload leads to the fact that a positive person turns into a negative-thinking creature.

Scientists have dubbed this phenomenon "data smog" and are already calculating the damage, talking about millions of dollars.

The researchers also call for action in the fields of science, education and legislation.

Further research is planned.
