The virtual world does not have the most positive impact on the real one. Even social networks leave their indelible mark.

According to recent research, they negatively affect mental health and lower self-esteem.

The corresponding studies were conducted by employees of York University in Canada.

They were primarily dedicated to women. It has been proven that social networks lower their self-esteem.

Research has shown that self-esteem suffers if a woman spends about half a day on her account.

The reason for this is idealized images of people – healthy, beautiful, well-groomed and wealthy.

But that's not the worst of it. From time to time you have to deal with haters and insults.

Experiment details

66 female students were divided into two groups.

Some were asked to maintain their normal lifestyle, while others were banned from using social media for one week.

A survey was then conducted, which revealed that the week-long break had been beneficial – the girls had increased their self-esteem.

But the point is that in their free time from visiting social networks, the girls walked in the fresh air, communicated with real people and otherwise spent time usefully.

It is these habits that have filled the void that previously had to be filled by social networks.
