Despite the fact that the ability to achieve goals is not only the basis for success in business, not every entrepreneur manages to implement their projects.
It turns out that there are 7 common mistakes that prevent you from achieving your goals.
And how to deal with them, said expert and practitioner of foreign economic activity Anna Fomicheva .
Mistake number one: you don’t break down goals into smaller tasks
Let's say your goal is to earn a million. A worthy dream for any aspiring businessman. But you need to not just want it, but clearly imagine how you will get there.
And, of course, soberly assess what you have at the start. If you don’t have the initial capital, you’ll have to look for it. Then you’ll need a clear business plan, hiring competent specialists, purchasing or producing goods, and choosing a sales market. And these are far from all the steps that are worth taking.
Thus, any goal can be broken down into smaller tasks, and from an ephemeral dream it will turn into a plan. This will help to assess the adequacy of the invested costs – money, time and energy – and to distribute resources wisely.
Mistake number two: you set impossible goals
You may not have the strength or time for some goals that are too global. The simplest example: you decide to learn three foreign languages in a year – English, German and Chinese.
You need to find good teachers and devote at least 2 hours a week to each language. And this is only about lessons with a teacher, but you will also need to do homework and practice with a native speaker.
In fact, your entire week will be scheduled hour by hour, and it’s good if you find time for fitness, meetings with friends, family, and sleep.
But, most likely, you will only work and study, study, study. So dream wisely. If after decomposing the goal you understand that you are not pulling it off, reconsider your desire and do what you have the resources for. For example, start learning not three languages, but one.
Mistake number three: you only plan for the short term
Previously, there were plans for a five-year period, but today many people prefer to set goals and objectives for the shortest periods. A day, a week, a quarter - and that's enough for them. It's a big strategic mistake not to see yourself and your business in the long term.
Not all goals are easy and quick to achieve, and if you don't set aside adequate time for the implementation of tasks, nothing will work out - you will choke, and the project will fall apart. So it is important to make plans adequately and adjust them in a timely manner.
Mistake number four: you don’t take into account the prospects
Any goal, task or dream can and should be edited. If you have several projects at once, get into the habit of reviewing them every 3-4 months and making changes. Perhaps one thing will have to be put on pause, and another, on the contrary, put into circulation and pumped up.
Also, get into the habit of rewriting your priorities and steps based on current circumstances in your life, country or economy. Don't expect 100% fulfillment of all your desires; a good result is considered to be the realization of at least two thirds of your goals list.
Mistake number five: you work with other people’s goals
Very often society imposes on us desires that our hearts do not really desire. Women must get married and have a child, men must earn money for a house, buy an expensive car and become a director of a company by the age of 45. This is how the environment influences us, constantly pushing us towards a choice imposed from the outside.
Therefore, do not be afraid to think big and analyze what exactly you want. Yes, it happens that circumstances force you to sacrifice something very important, but for a competent businessman, any, even a small crisis is a time of opportunity. And if he clearly knows his own goals, and not those imposed on him, the implementation will not take long to come.
Mistake number six: you set goals based on emotions
The “I want it urgently!” triggers – and now you are rushing to digitize a new goal. But always separate the emotional impulse, which will bring nothing but moral satisfaction, from successful planning. Connect sober calculation to goals and rely on facts, not momentary impulses.
Mistake number seven: you lack discipline and motivation
You can't digitize a goal and expect it to somehow materialize there. If you can't run to your goal, you should at least walk, and not just go with the flow.
To implement anything you need discipline, responsibility and willpower. Of course, nothing will work on its own, but for the sake of a successful project you simply have to make an effort.
For example, you decided to blog about a healthy lifestyle and then monetize it. To begin with, you will have to take the path of a healthy lifestyle, then gradually introduce healthy habits into your life, engage in content, and exercise.
To promote your blog, you will need not a day or a month, but a lot of time and resources. And it is important not to lose motivation. Therefore, all changes should be smooth, but stable, thoughtful and controlled.
Your fears and negative attitudes also become an obstacle on the way to the desired goal. As a rule, people get all this from childhood. “You are a loser!”, “I will do it without you, don’t even touch me”, “No talent – and diligence won’t help” – many children have heard such phrases from their parents.
Growing up, they still feel the voice of an adult critic inside them. But it is worth understanding that this is not about you, but about your father and mother. They grew up with such attitudes and cannot imagine anything else.
There are several ways to overcome such negative attitudes.
Enter your fear and finally try to do what you were so afraid of. If it doesn’t work out, review and adjust the goal, perhaps the problem is in one of the seven mistakes.
Charge yourself with positivity every day, avoiding bad and sad news, communicating with people who drag you down with their eternal pessimism. Try not to succumb to manipulation and provocation. Positive emotions bring the goal closer, negative ones – move it away.
Learn to delegate some of your work, especially homework. It is impossible to do everything yourself, it is time to learn to trust at least someone. This is especially important for debugging business processes, where you cannot cope alone, without a team.
Leave time for rest and hobbies, otherwise burnout is inevitable. Doing only one job is difficult, and unnecessary. You will have nothing to feed yourself with and protect yourself from negativity.
