Why You Shouldn't Place Your Bed With Its Headboard Facing North: Advice from an Indian Sage

There are many beliefs and traditions associated with choosing the direction in which to sleep.

One such belief is that you should not place your bed with the headboard facing north. There is currently no scientific evidence that sleeping with your head facing north is dangerous to your health.

However, science cannot explain everything. What modern scientists have only recently begun to discover, people knew thousands of years ago. Some are sure that this knowledge was given to the human race from above, some claim that it was inherited from a previous civilization.

Be that as it may, one Indian sage has a completely logical explanation for why you can’t sleep with your head to the north.

Advice from an Indian Sage

Sadhguru, an Indian sage, mystic and enlightened person, advises against placing your bed with its head facing north. He explains this quite materialistically. In his opinion, the reason for this is the Earth's magnetic field.

The Earth's magnetic field is constant and directed from north to south. When a person is in a vertical position, it is more difficult for the heart to "deliver" blood to the brain, since it has to overcome gravity.

When the body assumes a horizontal position, the blood supply to the brain is facilitated. And the blood itself is more strongly affected by the Earth's magnetic field.

Since the blood contains a sufficient amount of iron, it is "pulled" to the north, that is, to the brain, if the bed is with the headboard there. This creates a certain load and increases the risk of stroke. Therefore, it is better if the legs are facing north.

Is the Indian sage right? Probably not. But don't forget about the psychological effect. If you believe that sleeping with your head to the north is unsafe, you will experience stress and anxiety, and this will definitely have a negative impact on your health.

If you experience discomfort when lying with your head to the north, it is better to change the position of the bed.

But it is important to remember that healthy sleep depends not only on the direction of the head of the bed, but also on many other factors, such as a comfortable temperature, darkness, no noise, a light dinner, etc.
