How to deal with jealousy

The biggest destroyer of relationships is jealousy. Where does it come from and what to do with it so as not to ruin the relationship?

First of all, it must be said that jealousy to a certain extent is normal.

It is important to differentiate between pathological jealousy, when you are suspicious and offended when your partner has fun with someone else at a party, goes for coffee with a friend, or tells you about lunch with a colleague.

Where does this behavior come from? Simply put, jealousy is a sign of insecurity.

We usually get jealous when we don't realize our own worth, when we're afraid of rejection, loss, or when we doubt ourselves.

Thus, we can manage jealousy only when we understand that it is not so much our partner’s behavior as your attitude towards it.

After this realization, we have a choice of how to behave. The feelings themselves are often not the main problem. It only starts when you allow jealousy to consume you and your emotions come out uncontrollably.

And how do you prevent this? Instead of sitting at home and wondering what your partner is doing with his friends at the bar or why he hasn’t responded to your text, get busy. Go for a walk, see a movie, or talk to a friend. Don’t let your head wonder in real time about something you simply know nothing about.

But if you already need to talk to your partner and show that you are jealous, try to express it without aggression, remorse and respect for your other half.

While the strategies above can help you cope with jealousy when you feel it, they alone are not enough. If you tend to be controlling of your partner’s phone and social media, try to work on your self-confidence, self-esteem, and relationship with yourself. And don’t forget that your partner chose you because of who you are.

Of course, all of the above also applies to a jealous man.
