Two Russian women, residents of Yekaterinburg, fell ill with botulism after eating canned fish.
At present, their condition, according to medical assessments, is characterized as serious.
The press service of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Sverdlovsk Region reported this on its Telegram channel.
It is noted that an investigation is being conducted into the incident - there are two cases of the disease in question.
In terms of details, the agency points to the fact that the infected individuals – two adult relatives – ate canned fish.
The product had the following marking: "Food fish products. Sterilized canned fish "Sprats in oil from Baltic sprat carcasses".
We are talking about the trademark "TM "Za Rodinu". The production date of these sprats is September 13 of this year.
The product’s manufacturer is the fish factory “Za Rodinu” from the Kaliningrad region.
One of the victims reported that the sprats were bought at a mini-market in Yekaterinburg. An unknown person sold them from a truck.
Based on the results of the study, specialists from the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Sverdlovsk Region identified botulinum toxin in the remains of canned food products.
It was also found in the blood of those infected.
The condition of the victims is currently assessed as serious, the report says.
As part of the investigation into the incident, specialists from the regional Rospotrebnadzor are identifying the seller, manufacturer, and supply routes of the products.
In order to find the seller, the information was sent to law enforcement agencies, the department added.
