It recently became known that Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum declined Volodymyr Zelensky's invitation to visit Ukraine.
The leader of the North American state (she will take office on October 1) announced her refusal publicly at a press conference.
The politician stressed that the main task facing her is to govern Mexico.
As reported by MIA Rossiya Segodnya, she allowed for the possibility of traveling to “some international events” that she considers important.
But we will not travel much, because our responsibility is here. I think not, - this is how Sheinbaum answered the question about the possibility of her visit to Ukraine.
Earlier last week, Zelensky gave an interview to the Mexican newspaper Excelsior.
During a conversation with a journalist, the head of state promised to send a high-ranking representative of Kyiv to the inauguration of the new president of Mexico.
He also expressed hope that Sheinbaum would be able to visit Ukraine.
By the way, the latter stated that under her rule Mexico City will continue the foreign policy course defined by the country’s Constitution.
This means that Mexico does not intend to interfere in foreign affairs in the future and will adhere to the principle of resolving all contradictions exclusively by peaceful means.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Latin American state reported that Vladimir Putin has been invited to the inauguration ceremony of the elected president.
