An experienced gardener carefully monitors the behavior of plants. And if a tree does not shed its leaves in late autumn, then the gardener will definitely think about it.

You shouldn’t attribute this unusual phenomenon to weather conditions or connect what’s happening with folk signs.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, explained why trees are in no hurry to shed their leaves in late autumn.

There is reason to be concerned, because the plant is clearly not ready for winter and problems cannot be avoided.

How to check

1. If the leaves are yellow but haven't fallen off, everything is fine. Nature will take its course soon.

2. If the leaves are still green, try running your hand along the branch directly over the foliage. If they come off easily, the tree will survive the winter without problems.

3. If the leaves cling tenaciously to the branches, then the plant is not ready for winter.

What to do

If it is an adult tree, it can survive the winter without problems. In extreme cases, individual shoots will suffer.

You need to take care of the seedlings, which may die from severe frosts.

To do this, you need to cover the tree trunk circle with mulch and the trunk with burlap.

By avoiding sudden changes in air temperature, you can be sure that the young tree will survive the winter without complications.

For reference

A tree is a life form of woody plants with a single, clearly expressed, perennial, woody to varying degrees, preserved throughout life, branched main axis - the trunk.
