Many summer residents whitewash trees in the spring.
However, it is advisable to carry out this procedure in the fall.
The fact is that woody plants covered with the mixture before the onset of winter acquire maximum protection.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh spoke about the advantages of autumn whitewashing of trees.
Why is it worth whitewashing trees in autumn?
If the relevant work is carried out at the end of the current, and not at the beginning of the next summer cottage season, then one important result will be achieved.
Thus, plants will acquire protection not only from pests, but also from sunburn.
The latter problem often makes itself known during the transitional "winter-spring" period: the sun is very hot during the daytime, which seriously increases the risk of bark burns.
The whitening mixture that appeared on the plant in the fall reflects the sun's rays well, thereby protecting the outer part of the trunk before the start of the new summer cottage season.
How to Whitewash Trees in Autumn
You can buy the bleaching mixture or make it yourself.
Have you chosen the second option? Then proceed as follows: dilute 2.5 kilos of lime with ten liters of water.
Use copper sulfate (300 grams) and wood glue (100 grams) as additives.
Have you prepared the mixture? Don't rush to apply it to the tree! First, rid the plant's surface of moss and lichen.
Trees should be whitewashed on a day when there is no precipitation.
The thickness of the whitewash layer should be approximately 3 millimeters.
Most likely, to achieve the desired result, you will have to apply the mixture in several stages. Do not rush: do not whitewash the area where the already applied mass has not yet dried.
