Why indoor plants die in winter: care mistakes

Even in greenhouse home conditions, indoor plants may not survive the winter and die.

The task of the florist during this period is to help the flowers adapt to the difficult period, and therefore provide the necessary conditions for growth and development after hibernation.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, spoke about the main mistakes in caring for indoor plants.

Care mistakes

1. Winter is a dormant period for most indoor plants. Their growth slows down, which means they consume less moisture.

For the same reason, it is necessary to revise the feeding schedule.

You will also have to change the watering regime because as the temperature drops, moisture from the soil evaporates less intensively.

2. But air humidity needs to be monitored and increased if necessary.

Heating devices dry the air, so only cacti and other relatives will not feel the changes.

A container of water should be placed next to tropical crops, or the radiators should be covered with a damp towel.

3. In winter, even shade-loving crops may feel uncomfortable away from the window.

Think about which flowers need to be moved to the window and which ones under the phytolamp.

4. Despite the cold, do not forget to ventilate the rooms.

Just don't create drafts. Regular ventilation will help avoid pests and fungal diseases.

5. Don't forget to wipe the leaves with a damp, clean cloth.

Due to accumulated dust, they capture sunlight worse, which negatively affects photosynthesis.

6. As for replanting, if you don’t have time to do it in the fall, it’s better to postpone the procedure until spring.

Don't forget to carry out preventive treatments, inspect flowers in time, and then all your green friends will survive the winter without any particular shocks.
