Perennial bulbous flowers such as daffodils attract many gardeners with their beauty.
As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explained, these plants are distinguished by high endurance and frost resistance, which makes them ideal for growing in various climatic conditions.
Plant growers also like them because they come in a wide variety of colors, shapes and sizes.
As a rule, the stem of the narcissus is crowned with one flower, but there are also varieties with several buds (a striking example is the narcissus "Jonquil").
Depending on weather conditions, daffodils can bloom for 6 to 8 weeks.
Warmth and moisture promote long-lasting flowering, while drafts or hot, dry weather can cause delicate petals to quickly fade.
Why don't daffodils bloom?
But even if the weather conditions are right, sometimes daffodils refuse to please their owners with exquisite flowers.
There could be several reasons for this.
One of the main ones is acidic soil – daffodils prefer neutral or slightly alkaline conditions.
In addition, these flowers do not like shady places.
Lack of flowering can be caused by deep planting of bulbs, as well as excessive watering.
Finally, dense plantings have a negative impact on the condition of the plants, as a result of which the daffodils do not receive enough nutrients.
Therefore, all that is required of you is to correct the mistakes made, and soon you will be able to boast about your blooming daffodil beds to your neighbors.
