Sometimes beets grow "with a beard." In other words, with a fibrous root system.
In general, there is nothing wrong with an abundance of roots.
“Bearded” root vegetables are just as tasty as “regular” ones - with a clearly defined main “tail”.
In addition, the presence of a “beard” does not affect the shelf life of beets: such a harvest will also be stored for a long time.
And yet, summer residents are not very happy if the root system of a popular garden crop turns out to be fibrous rather than taproot.
But why can root crops become "gnarled"? Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh emphasized: it is a common mistake of summer residents.
Why did beets grow "with a beard"
The main reason is careless transplantation of beets.
If the root is damaged during picking, a large number of roots will begin to grow. After all, the plant will need to somehow obtain nutrients and moisture.
If you want the root vegetables to be “correct” and not become “bearded”, then transplant the plant carefully.
Follow these recommendations: dig the seedlings deeply, avoid pulling out the seedlings, make the planting holes as deep as possible, and do not plant the plant too tightly.
