Of all the pome fruit crops, the pear is considered the most capricious representative. After planting a seedling, a fair number of years pass before the first harvest appears.

This circumstance is extremely worrying for beginning gardeners, but the problem can be avoided at the stage of planting the tree.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, explained why a pear tree may not bear fruit.

The pear tree has relatively high requirements for it to begin to produce a consistently rich harvest.

Although it is not that difficult to care for, you need to think about where to plant it.

Secrets of the pear harvest

1. You need to choose a suitable place:

  • need a lot of sunlight,
  • avoid areas with high groundwater levels,
  • eliminate unfavorable neighborhoods.

2. Regular watering is required for further growth.

In a dry summer, pay double attention to watering the pear, but do not overwater - high humidity reduces the shelf life of the future harvest.

3. An important point in caring for a pear is pruning. The main type of pruning is formative. But one should not forget about the sanitary condition of the tree.

Be sure to remove competing shoots, suckers, and branches growing into the crown and thickening it.

4. Another point is pollination of pear. If you do not know about the varietal characteristics, then plant the seedling near an already growing pear, even if it is in the neighboring area.

5. And do not forget to pay attention to the treatment of the tree. The culture is prone to scab, and rust, if not treated in time, can destroy the tree.

For reference

Pear is a genus of fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs of the rose family, as well as their fruit.
