Experienced gardeners know the rules of neighborhood in the beds. Exactly the same rules apply to plantings in the garden.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist, and landscape designer, told us what should not be planted next to cherries.
Following this simple rule will help preserve the harvest of fruit crops.
What should not be planted next to a cherry tree
Firstly, cherry trees do not bear fruit very well next to apple trees, and this is because both crops are prone to moniliosis.
Fungal disease can affect both cherry and apple crops.
Secondly, planting coniferous crops next to fruit trees can be considered a bad idea.
In our case, the cherry will be hampered by spreading branches that create shade. And conifers are often carriers of diseases.
Thirdly, you should not plant nightshade crops or strawberries next to cherries.
The best neighbors
Greens (parsley, dill, basil, leafy greens) grow well next to cherries.
You can also plant perennial crops (hostas, marigolds, calendula, lungwort).
It is also important to remember that cherry loves sunlight and does not tolerate drafts and cold winds.
For reference
Cherry is a subgenus of plants of the genus Plum of the Rosaceae family.
