If the water on your site is close to the soil surface, then before planting fruit trees, you should prepare high mounds.
But even this measure does not mean that you will be able to grow absolutely any tree species in your garden.
As the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh explains, it will still not be possible to grow apricots and cherries.
But other stone fruits will be a completely acceptable option.
The first on the list of candidates suitable for growing in areas with high groundwater is plum.
It is accompanied by quince, rowan and apple (the best of them are those that have been grafted onto clonal rowan or quince rootstocks).
In addition, you can count on a harvest from trees such as pear and cherry - the main thing is to choose a drier place for them or build higher hills.
The height of the mound depends on the groundwater level: for an apple tree, a mound of 1-2 meters in height is recommended, and for a plum tree, a mound of about 1 meter in height is suitable.
For reference
Groundwater is the gravitational water of the first permanently existing aquifer from the Earth's surface, located on the first impermeable layer.
