Every gardener should know that the lack of leaf fall is a sign that the tree has not had time to prepare for winter.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told what can be done if it is deep autumn outside, and the trees in your garden do not feel like parting with their leaves.
The first thing to do is to assess the scale of the problem.
If the leaves have turned yellow, it is likely that they will fall to the ground in the near future.
If, even in late autumn, the leaves are in no hurry to turn yellow, you will need to conduct a test that will help determine the degree of readiness of the plant for hibernation.
To do this, you need to grab the branch with your fingers and move your hand from the trunk to its tip. Will the leaves get off easy? Everything is fine: the plug at the petioles has formed and they are no longer receiving nutrition, that is, again, there is no reason to worry.
If, as a result of observing the trees, you come to the conclusion that they are not prepared for the coming winter, all that remains for you to do is to continue to monitor the condition of the plants in the hope for the best.
Mature, healthy trees will likely survive the winter safely, although their branches may be damaged by frost.
However, frosts pose the greatest danger to young, fragile seedlings, as sudden frosts during the growing season can lead to their death. Fortunately, there is a way to reduce the damage: you need to mulch the tree trunk circle and carefully cover the trunk.
