For most summer residents, creating a hedge involves planting densely growing and preferably evergreen plants.

Here, conifers come to mind, of which thuja is the most popular.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told us which plants to plant along the borders of a plot to create a hedge.

It is no secret that most areas are separated from each other by a metal mesh.

But there is no way to hide behind it. In addition, it rusts, and painting it is problematic.

And one more drawback: a fence made of mesh is more suitable for fencing a vegetable garden, but not for landscaping a plot.

How to choose plants

When choosing plants for a hedge, there are several important points to consider.

1. The plant should be fast growing, and ideally up to 25-35 centimeters per season.

2. The plant should have a dense crown.

3. But the most important thing is the ease of care and unpretentiousness of the culture, including frost resistance.

What to plant

1. Pyracantha meets all the listed requirements.

It grows about 30 centimeters per year and is covered with white flowers in the spring.

In summer it turns into a solid green curtain, and in autumn it is covered with red berries.

2. Forsythia grows up to 25 centimeters per year. Before the buds open, bright yellow flowers appear on it.

It can be trimmed and shaped, and does not necessarily require covering even in frosty winters.

3. Cotoneaster is also an unpretentious crop.

It has a dense crown that does not require constant pruning, and it also tolerates cold well.

Cotoneaster grows up to 20 centimeters per year.
