Frosty winters with little snow have a negative impact on the fertile soil layer.

It is believed that after such wintering, the soil in the beds needs to be improved. But this does not mean that you can add all the fertilizers you have in stock to the soil.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told what needs to be done with the soil after winter.

Soil condition

First, you need to check the acidity of the soil using tests that are sold in stores.

Determining the content of nutrients in the soil is much more difficult.

Therefore, the easiest way to restore the soil after winter is to add compost or humus.

You should not give up on sowing green manure crops. Legumes or cruciferous plants are usually used at this time.

Agricultural technology

It is recommended to loosen the soil in spring. After the snow and water melt, the soil may become hard.

A cultivator is used for deep processing, and a rake will do for surface loosening.

If there was little precipitation in the winter, the soil may be overdried in the spring, which will require watering.

After moistening the beds, they should be covered with straw mulch, which will protect the soil from temperature changes.

Instead of mulch, you can use agrofibre, which will also protect the soil from drying out and erosion.

Don't neglect these tips and then at the end of the season you will have a rich harvest of vegetables and fruits.
