Probably, not a single summer resident who grows crops on his plot treats hares as cute animals. These creatures are rather perceived by gardeners as toothy pests capable of causing serious damage.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh listed the methods that gardeners resort to in order to protect their property from hares.
Fencing
The best type of protective fencing is wire mesh with holes no larger than 2-3 cm. The height of such a fence should be at least 70-90 cm. When installing the fence, bend the bottom edge of the mesh at an angle of 90 degrees outward, in the shape of the English letter L. Dig deeper - at least 15 cm - to hide the bottom of the fence underground.
Repellent odors
It is believed that a hare's paw will not set foot on a site that has a strong smell. Try scattering a mixture of garlic powder and ground chili pepper around the perimeter of the garden.
Plants-repellents
Hares cannot stand daffodils, lavender, yarrow and rosemary. Marigolds, onions and garlic have the same effect - do not rely on any one type, but mix several at once.
Dog
The desire to protect yourself from pests is a good reason to get a pet. A dog walking around the site will discourage the big-eared ones from eating anything tasty from your site.
Owls
You can try to attract owls to your site using decoys, or you can install plastic owls on the beds - there is a chance that they will scare the hares and they will refuse to visit the territory that belongs to you.
