The secret of currants that agronomists keep quiet about: how to collect a bucket of berries from one bush

Do you think that currants grow on their own? Pro Plants magazine conducted an experiment: two identical bushes planted in the same region yielded a harvest with a difference of 8 kg. The reason?

Invisible to the eye details that are not written about in textbooks.

The famous breeder Anna Kovaleva , creator of the “Yadrenaya” variety, admitted in an interview for the “Dachny Club”:

"Even old bushes can be made to bear fruit if you know three rules."

Olga from Voronezh told the forum “Harvest Beds”:

“After these manipulations, I collected 12 liters of berries - the neighbors still don’t believe it!”

The first secret is "rejuvenating haircut". Currants bear fruit on branches no older than 3 years.

Each fall, remove shoots that are thicker than a pencil and darker than the bark of young branches. The second clue is "yeast explosion."

Top dressing with 100 g of raw yeast diluted in 10 liters of water at the time of flowering doubles the number of ovaries.

Research by the Moscow State University Botanical Garden has confirmed that yeast activates soil bacteria, which convert microelements into an accessible form.

The third life hack is a “cold shower”.

Spraying the bush with ice water in early spring (before the buds swell) kills the larvae of the kidney mite.

But the main thing is that currants hate loneliness. Plant varieties with different flowering periods nearby for cross-pollination.

For example, Black Pearl and Venus will create a symbiosis, increasing yields by 40%.

Petr Sidorchuk , owner of the “Berry Paradise” nursery, advises mulching the tree trunk circle with pine needles:

"An acidic environment suppresses weeds and repels moths."

But apply mineral fertilizers carefully - excess nitrogen will turn the bush into a "jungle" without berries.

The final touch is harvesting on a cloudy day. The sun destroys vitamin C, and the moisture from the dew makes the berries watery.

"Currant is not a princess, but it is not a hard worker either. It demands attention, but pays for it generously," wrote Soviet gardener Ivan Kuryumov in his diaries.

Try these methods this season and the question of “where to put those berries” will become your new headache.
