When growing beets, summer residents rarely encounter problems. The main difficulties arise when preparing the soil for sowing and applying fertilizers.
Otherwise, beets are unpretentious crops.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told about the problems that arise when growing beets.
Because of them, beets become tough, grow small and do not store well.
First of all, the soil
If the soil in your garden is heavy and highly acidic, then before sowing, think about how to deacidify the soil and loosen the soil.
You can use dolomite flour, ash, and to loosen the soil it is recommended to add rotted compost.
Secondly, feeding
When the shoots appear, inspect the beds and if you find small tops, think about fertilizing.
Organic matter is added - humus or compost, and from folk remedies, root crops are fed with herbal infusion.
Thirdly, sowing time
On average, gardeners are advised to sow beets at the same time as planting potatoes.
Fourth, the interval
Root crops are very demanding in terms of planting intervals.
To avoid thinning, sow seeds 10 cm apart.
The distance between rows should not be less than 30 cm.
Fifth, watering
If the weather is dry, then be sure to pay attention to the watering regime during the plant's formation period - in June.
