Potatoes are one of the main garden crops.
Despite the vegetable’s popularity, many summer residents make serious mistakes when growing it.
The result of such mistakes is a decrease in potato yield.
And that's the best case scenario. The worst and, unfortunately, most common outcome is a complete loss of the nightshade crop.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh listed dangerous actions due to which a summer resident will not be able to collect a sufficient number of high-quality tubers.
Tight fit
Potatoes should not be planted too closely.
If a gardener makes this mistake, the vegetable crop will face a deficiency of important compounds, since it simply will not be able to “take” them from the soil normally.
Planting certain plants next to potatoes
Potatoes do not get along well with many popular crops.
So, representatives of the same family (tomatoes, eggplants, capsicums) cannot be planted next to nightshade.
If you do allow such a “neighborhood,” the plants will begin to compete for nutrients.
In addition, the risk of rapid spread of diseases will increase.
Incorrect feeding
Potatoes cannot be fed with fresh manure.
The introduction of this organic matter is fraught with the emergence of serious problems with the root system of the popular garden crop.
Caution must also be exercised when applying fertilizers that contain nitrogen: this element worsens the condition of root crops.
It is advisable to focus on fertilizers that are sources of potassium and phosphorus.
