Even a novice gardener can cope with growing strawberries - the main thing is to know a couple of rules.

So, it is definitely worth getting acquainted with the signs that indicate that it is time to throw out the bushes and replace them with new ones.

The bushes have grown old

The strawberry cultivation period is about 3-4 years: if you plant the plant in the fall, you will be able to harvest the following spring, albeit a small one. The second year is the maximum fruiting, and from the third the number of fruits begins to decrease.

This fact indicates that it is time for a change – if you do not take care of your strawberry plant, you risk being left without berries.

Such bushes can be transplanted to another bed, and if there is no free space left on the plot, you will have to plant new ones.

The berries are dry and small

If the strawberry refuses to bear fruit in the second and third years, it is worth taking a closer look at the place where it grows.

The lack of a harvest may be due to growing strawberries in the shade: do not plant beds in the shade, under bushes or trees, on the north side of the plot, etc.

Small, dry fruits may also appear if strawberries were planted after nightshades – carefully select the predecessors for this plant.

In this case, you can’t do without replanting either: no amount of feeding or care will help.

The strawberries are sick

Have you noticed that rotten berries are increasingly appearing on the bushes or the fruits are covered with a white coating? This indicates a plant disease - as, in fact, do bushes drying out without a reason or brown spots on the leaves.

With timely diagnosis, you can try to fight the disease, but in advanced cases there is nothing left to do but throw away the infected bushes.

After this, the area needs to be disinfected. Unfortunately, it cannot be used for growing strawberries for the next 4-6 years.
