Wood ash is a popular fertilizer among gardeners, which can be used in both dry and liquid form.

Use of ash in dry form

Before you start fertilizing plants with ash, sift it to get rid of large pieces of coal.

Because small pieces can easily be picked up and carried away by the wind, it is best to apply this fertilizer when there is no wind outside.

Sprinkle wood ash evenly over your garden, perennial flowerbed, lawn or landscape area (up to 300 g per 1 square meter).

The optimal time for this procedure is early spring or late autumn, when there are almost no green plants on the site.

Then work the fertilizer deeper into the moist soil. This can be done using a motor cultivator, shovel or rake.

Liquid fertilizer from ash

Liquid fertilizer from ash can be prepared in several ways.

One of them is to mix a glass of ash with a bucket (10 l) of water. Water the resulting liquid at the roots of the plants, shaking the solution well beforehand, as sediment may form in it.

You can also make an ash infusion: fill 1/3 of a bucket with dry ash and pour hot water to the top. Let the infusion sit for 48 hours. After the specified time has passed, use the infusion for root and foliar feeding of plants in the summer.

Another way is to pour 300 g of sifted ash with a liter of boiling water and continue boiling for 30 minutes. After cooling, the decoction should be filtered and diluted in 10 liters of water.

This solution is suitable for spraying plants during the fruit ripening period.
