If you inherited an old bathtub from the previous owners along with your country house, don’t rush to get rid of it.
According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, this item can be useful when landscaping a site.
One of the options for using a bathtub is to create a pond, which can become a real source of pride. We tell you what you will need to equip a pond from a bathtub in your garden.
The first thing to do is to place the bathtub in the place where you plan to create a pond, and using pegs and a string stretched between them, mark the boundaries of the future pit. Note: you need to add another 20 cm - for a sand cushion.
Remove the turf layer and dig a hole. Its depth should be such that the tub rises above the ground by 5 cm (don't forget about the 20-cm sand cushion).
In the place where the drain will be, you need to dig an additional hole 60 cm deep and 50-60 cm wide.
Roll up a sheet of tin to fit the size of the hole. Insert it into the hole so that the edges protrude 30 centimeters above the ground. Fill the funnel with crushed stone or gravel to a height of 20 centimeters. Then put a 20-centimeter layer of sand to level it. After this, the metal sheet can be removed.
All that remains is to install the bathtub, placing its drain hole above the crushed stone bed. Gradually add sand, moistening it with water to fill all the voids between the walls and the ground.
At the same time, fill the bathtub with water until the water level is equal to the sand level.
To decorate the edges of the bathtub, you can use stones or removed turf. Plant moisture-loving plants along the edges. By the way, they can be planted inside the pond - in pots or directly in bags with soil, and if there is a layer of gravel and sand on the bottom - and in the bathtub itself.
