The money tree, or fat woman, is one of the most popular indoor plants, which attracts not only with its appearance, but also with its symbolism.
It is believed that this plant brings prosperity and good luck to the home.
However, in order for the money tree to delight with lush greenery and grow actively, it is necessary to take into account several important aspects of care.
Important information on this matter was shared by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
Proper lighting and temperature conditions
The money tree loves bright but diffused light. It feels great on windowsills facing east or west.
Direct sunlight can burn the leaves, so it is important to provide the plant with protection from it.
During the winter period, it is recommended to provide additional lighting so that the plant does not experience a lack of light.
Temperature conditions also play an important role in the growth of the money tree. It prefers moderate temperatures - about 20-25 degrees in summer, and not lower than 10-15 degrees in winter.
It is important to avoid sudden changes in temperature and drafts, which can negatively affect the health of the plant.
Watering and air humidity
The fat woman, as a succulent, does not require frequent watering. Its root system is capable of accumulating moisture, so it is important to avoid over-watering the soil.
The plant should be watered as the top layer of soil dries out, approximately once a week in the summer and once every two weeks in the winter. Watering should be done with soft, settled water at room temperature.
Air humidity is not critical for the money tree. It tolerates dry air well, but on hot days you can spray the leaves to refresh the plant.
It is important to avoid stagnant water in the tray, as this can lead to root rot.
Correct choice of soil and fertilizing
For successful growth of the money tree, it is necessary to choose the right soil. Loose and well-drained soil that does not retain moisture is suitable.
You can use ready-made soil for succulents or cacti, adding a little sand or vermiculite to it to improve water drainage.
The money tree is fed during the period of active growth - in spring and summer. Fertilizers for cacti and succulents containing balanced macro- and microelements are suitable for this. It is recommended to apply fertilizer no more than once a month to avoid oversaturation of the soil.
Pruning and crown shaping
In order for the money tree to grow compact and symmetrical, it is necessary to periodically prune it.
Removing old and weak branches promotes active growth of new shoots and formation of a beautiful crown. Pruning is best done in the spring, when the plant begins to actively grow.
It is also important to pay attention to the formation of the crown. To prevent the money tree from stretching in height, its tops can be pinched, stimulating the growth of lateral shoots. Thus, the plant will acquire a thicker and more lush shape.
Transplantation and propagation
The money tree is replanted once every 2-3 years. Young plants require more frequent replanting so that their root system has enough space to develop. For replanting, you should choose a pot a few centimeters larger than the previous one and use fresh soil.
The money tree is propagated by cuttings or leaves. Cuttings easily take root in water or directly in the soil, if you maintain optimal humidity.
This method allows you to quickly obtain a new plant while preserving all its decorative qualities.
