New Year is a great opportunity to try yourself in some new field, for example, in plant growing.

You can set yourself the goal of growing a real avocado tree, because the required “ingredient” – an avocado pit – is probably left over from making sandwiches for the holiday table.

Step-by-step instructions for sprouting avocado seeds were shared by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.

Important nuances

Avocado grows well in subtropical climates: in such conditions it can reach a height of 25 meters.

In cold climates, this plant can be grown indoors, where it reaches a height of no more than 3 meters.

How to Sprout an Avocado Seed

Remove the seed from the fruit and rinse it in water. Stick 3-4 toothpicks into the walls of the seed and place it over a container of water so that the seed is half submerged in the liquid.

The seed should touch the water with the blunt end.

If you remember to add water to the container in which you sprout the avocado, in just a few weeks you will notice a root on the blunt end of the pit, and a shoot on the sharp end.

Haven't seen any changes, even though 2-3 months have passed? This also happens: in this case, you'll have to start all over again.

How to Plant an Avocado

If your efforts were not in vain and the seed did sprout, you can plant it in the soil.

To do this, remove the toothpicks and place the seed in a container half filled with soil mixture.

The blunt end should point downwards and the top should be left open.

Take the pot to a bright place and do not forget to water it so that the soil remains slightly moist at all times.
