How to Feed Cherry in Early Spring: Help the Plant “Wake Up”

Are you sure that your cherry tree wakes up in spring on its own?

In fact, without your help, she risks sleeping through the entire season, leaving you without juicy berries.

The first feeding is an “energy drink” that starts the flow of sap and the formation of flower buds.

As soon as the snow melts and the soil warms up to +5°C, dig a 15 cm deep groove around the trunk (the diameter is based on the projection of the crown).

Add 300 g of bone meal mixed with 1 glass of wood ash.

Bone meal is rich in phosphorus, which stimulates roots, and ash reduces acidity and repels cockchafer larvae.

Bury the fertilizer and water it with warm water (40°C) – this will speed up the dissolution of the substances.

After a week, prepare a "green cocktail": fill a bucket with nettles, dandelions and plantain, pour water, add 2 tablespoons of sugar. Infuse for 3 days, strain and dilute 1 liter of infusion in 10 liters of water.

Water the cherry tree at a rate of 5 liters per tree. The herbal infusion will saturate the soil with nitrogen and potassium, but do not overdo it - excess nitrogen will cause shoot growth at the expense of flowering.

If the leaves are pale, spray them with a urea solution (50 g per 10 liters), but only before the buds open.

After flowering, feed the cherry tree with potassium magnesium sulfate (20 g per 1 m²) - this will prevent the ovaries from falling off.

Never use fresh manure - it will burn the roots and attract aphids.

If the soil is sandy, add clay to the trunk circle so that the fertilizers do not wash out. Be sure to mulch the soil with compost in a 5 cm layer - this will retain moisture and protect against recurrent frosts.

In just a month, you will see how the cherry tree “comes to life”: the bark will become smooth, and the buds will swell, ready to explode into bloom.
