Beets and carrots should be juicy and sweet, despite the fact that they are vegetables. But it happens that the harvest does not please the gardeners with its taste.

The reason should not be sought in the varietal characteristics of the sown root crops. Basically, it is a consequence of the mistakes made.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, explained why beets and carrots grew unsweetened.

First of all, fertilizers

Manure should not be used for these crops. It saturates the soil with nitrogen, which is why the vegetables acquire an unpleasant taste and also become deformed.

It is recommended to use a solution of nitroammophoska, fertilizers with boron, manganese, wood ash, and a saline solution.

Secondly, landing

These vegetables are planted in a well-lit sunny place.

It is equally important to observe crop rotation – they can return to their previous location no earlier than after 4 years.

It is better to plant root crops after cucumbers, onions, and cabbage.

Thirdly, acidity

A neutral level of soil acidity is required, and not even slightly acidic.

Therefore, before planting, if necessary, lime should be added at a rate of 0.5 kg per square meter. Liming is carried out in the fall.

It is equally important to fight the carrot fly, which is afraid of the tobacco mixture.
