Which plants determine soil acidity with 100% accuracy: there can be no mistake

There are legends among novice gardeners and vegetable growers that you can use plants to determine the acidity of the soil.

This is indeed true, but with one caveat: it is not possible to accurately determine the acidity of the soil using this method.

Most of the plants that have taken a fancy to a plot can only give the summer resident an approximate and indirect guide.

Take, for example, cereal grassy vegetation: bluegrass, cocksfoot, etc., with a high probability indicate that the soil is neutral.

Pronounced acidity of the soil with a pH level below 5 is characterized by sparse vegetation, i.e. there are few weeds on the ground. Another telling sign is a large number of lichens and mosses on the soil surface.

The more coniferous plants grow naturally on the earth, the more acidic the soil will be when tested for pH.

Conversely, if there are no trees growing in the area whose soil acidity you are interested in, the soil there is most likely neutral or even alkaline.

Experienced plant growers say that there are only a couple of plants that can be called absolute markers of soil acidity.

These include kermek (wild statice) and soleros. Kermek in the wild chooses exclusively alkaline soils, while soleros prefers highly saline soils with a pH value above 8.5-9.
