What to do in October at the dacha if September was dry: a must-do

30.09.2024 08:59

September is coming to an end.

This year, the first month of autumn delighted residents of many regions with truly summer weather.

It was very warm and dry. The amount of precipitation was quite low for the first third of the calendar autumn.

Summer residents were happy with the high air temperature. At the same time, some gardeners and vegetable growers clearly did not like the fact that rain fell rarely in the outgoing month.

The fact is that in such conditions there was almost no “natural watering” of plants.

How to compensate for the lack of moisture? Expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh addressed summer residents with an important reminder.

An important autumn procedure at the dacha

The specialist reminded about the importance of implementing so-called moisture-charging irrigation.

This procedure is necessary to protect garden crops from the consequences of the upcoming deterioration of weather conditions (a sharp drop in air temperature, temperature fluctuations, strong wind, large amounts of snow, etc.)

If autumn precipitation was a frequent occurrence, then you can do without moisture-charging irrigation (and even then, you need to check the condition of the soil under the trees and shrubs: the soil should be quite moist).

If September rains were a very rare occurrence, then the conclusion is obvious: “It is necessary to carry out moisture-recharging irrigation.”

Saturate the trunk circles of trees and shrubs with moisture. There should be 10 liters of water per 1 m2 (if we are talking about a shrub) or 20 liters of water (if we are talking about a tree).

This action must be completed in the second half of October.
