Despite the fact that vegetable gardens are mostly half empty, gardeners and horticulturists should not rejoice in the warm or even hot autumn, at least not in this case.

Autumn drought is fraught with crop failure in the following season. It is difficult to predict the consequences, since it is unclear what other surprises winter has in store for summer residents.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told what problems a dry and hot autumn can throw at gardeners.

About the pros

Gardeners have the opportunity to properly prepare their harvest for storage.

First of all, this concerns drying root crops before storing them. But we can put an end to this.

Now about the cons

Unfortunately, a dry autumn means that perennial ornamental plants, berry bushes and fruit trees will not be prepared enough for the winter.

In such conditions, plants simply do not have time to replenish the lack of nutrients after fruiting or flowering.

Is it possible to avoid problems?

Only moisture-charging irrigation can help, the effectiveness of which depends on the competent actions of the gardener.

First, it is necessary to observe watering standards. Trees aged 1-3 years require 30-50 liters of water per root.

Trees up to 10 years old need 70 to 100 liters of water, and trees over 10 years old need up to 150 liters.

Berry bushes require 30 to 50 liters of water regardless of age.

Moisture-charging irrigation is carried out after harvesting. The soil should be soaked to a depth of 70 cm.

Secondly, it is necessary to carry out additional fertilizing, for which it is better to use superphosphate, and from organic matter, wood ash.

Thirdly, to prevent moisture from evaporating so intensively, it is necessary to mulch the soil in the tree trunk area.
