Perennial roses are heat-loving and do not tolerate winter very well, even if they are protected from frost.

Let's be honest - this is simply not enough to count on a comfortable wintering of the plant and subsequent lush flowering.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist, landscape designer, reminded summer residents how to prepare roses for winter.

It is important to replenish the plant's strength after flowering, which can be done by fertilizing.

Fertilizers help strengthen the roots, recover after pruning, speed up the process of bud and shoot formation, and generally increase the roses' resistance to cold.

What to feed

Root feeding is carried out using superphosphate (20-25 g per bush), potassium magnesium sulfate (25-30 g), and potassium sulfate (10-15 g).

Fans of folk methods recommend using eggshell powder, fertilizers based on onion peel or banana peel, as well as other potions (for example, yeast).

But it is important to remember that such additives do not allow you to accurately calculate the dosage of fertilizer, taking into account such factors as climate or plant age.

You also need to remember about the correct and timely covering of roses to avoid shoots from rotting and the formation of rot during wintering.
