Beans are not as popular a crop as cucumbers or potatoes, but you can’t do without them either, because they are the most popular among legumes.
It is unpretentious, useful and popular in cooking. Therefore, you need to think about how to harvest it in order to preserve it.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how to do the right thing.
Harvesting beans
Depending on the variety, growing method and climate, bean harvesting begins in July and ends in autumn.
1. It is better to plan harvesting in the morning so that fewer grains fall out of the cracked pods.
2. Cleaning is done by pulling out the plant with the roots, and not separately by the pod. After that, the bushes are left to dry in the shade and in the open air, with suitable material laid under them.
3. After two weeks, the bean grains will reach what is called technical maturity.
4. Next, they need to be removed from the pods and dried for several days before finally being stored.
To avoid pests, keep the dried grains in an oven preheated to 60 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes.
Beans are stored at a temperature of 16-18 degrees.
