For most cultivated perennials, August is a critical period.
If we talk about strawberries, they cannot do without fertilizing. However, summer residents mistakenly believe that it is enough to mow the strawberries.
An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh told how to feed strawberries and why it is so important.
Why feed strawberries
Firstly, the berry plant must restore its strength after fruiting, as well as the development of the root system, growth of leaves, tendrils and new rosettes.
Secondly, fruit buds are formed for the next year.
Thirdly, strawberries at this time of year themselves need nutrition, just like in spring.
How to feed strawberries in August
At this time of year, strawberries need nitrogen (to restore the berry plant’s vegetation – this is applied in the first half of the month), phosphorus and potassium.
A simple option is a complex fertilizer in which these substances are present in equal proportions.
In order for the plant to survive the winter well, calcium will be needed. It can be added at the end of August or even in the fall.
Boron, magnesium and sulfur may also be required.
