There is a widespread opinion among summer residents that watering carrots in August is unacceptable.

It is believed that such action can lead to a serious deterioration in the condition of root crops.

In fact, garden crops need water at the end of summer as well. Unless, of course, we are talking about early varieties of the plant, the harvest of which is carried out precisely during this period.

Yes, in August, watering carrots should not be as frequent as in midsummer. But in most cases, you should not completely abandon the procedure.

The fact is that a lack of moisture can also cause the appearance of root crops to deteriorate.

An expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh reminded us of two important rules for watering plants in August.

Frequency of watering carrots in August

At the end of summer, the root crops are already quite large. They do not need much moisture.

However, it is still worth watering 3-4 times a month. There should be 20 liters of water per 1 m2.

If August turns out to be very rainy, then the frequency of watering and water consumption should be reduced. It may make sense to completely abandon the procedure.

In addition, it is important to remember that it is advisable to stop watering completely 3 weeks before the planned harvest.

Take into account the condition of the plant

Before watering carrots, be sure to evaluate their appearance. An abundance of "threads" and shoots indicates that the plant has encountered excess water. In this case, watering should be postponed to a later date.

But excessive dryness and hardness of the root crop indicates a lack of moisture. Perhaps the plant needs more water.
