Summer thunderstorms and hurricanes primarily pose a danger to trees.
If you want to survive the bad weather without any significant losses, the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh warns: you will have to take preventive measures.
It is important to prune trees in a timely manner and in accordance with all regulations.
If you regularly carry out this procedure in your garden, you will not only improve the appearance of the plantings, but also reduce their “sailability”, which means that the branches will be able to cope with hurricane winds more easily.
The right time for formative pruning, as you know, is in the spring, but no one forbids getting rid of dry branches at any time. The main thing is not to forget to take care of the cuts.
Hurricane winds can damage not only dry but also healthy, strong branches on old trees.
To prevent this, you can shorten the largest branches a little (reduce the “sail”) or provide them with supports.
A garter to the trunk can be used as an addition to the supports or as an alternative. You can also tie the branches together using thick metal wire with a clamp.
