By mid to late June, arrows, or flower shoots, begin to appear in the beds with winter garlic, which must be removed.
Today we will tell you how to carry out this operation correctly.
As a rule, it is worth starting to remove garlic shoots in mid-June, but it is better to focus on their size. Wait until the shoots reach a height of 15 centimeters, so that you do not have to conjure over the beds twice.
You shouldn’t delay removing them either: in this case, the plant will waste its energy on the shoots and won’t be able to please you with fruits.
The weather is also important: the best option is the morning of a dry and sunny day.
The arrows should be removed at the level of the exit from the tube, and each summer resident decides for himself how to do this.
Most often, they are simply cut with scissors at a distance of 1-2 cm from the base. You cannot pull them out - most likely, you will damage the root or stem of the plant.
After removing the arrows, the garlic can be fed with potassium fertilizer, for example, wood ash or potassium sulfate.
Do not remove all the shoots at once, leave a few for propagation. In addition, plants with shoots serve as indicators of garlic maturity: when the caps with bulblets begin to crack, this indicates that it is time to harvest the garlic.
