Many summer residents, to their chagrin (if not horror), notice in the spring that the bark has begun to peel off from some trees in the garden.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, explained how to act in such a situation.
The first thing you will have to do is remove all the loose bark – unfortunately, it will not be able to grow back.
Leaving scraps on the tree is also not an option, as moisture will accumulate under the bark, which will lead to the development of diseases and the appearance of pests.
The next step is to treat the exposed layer of wood with a simple stain, for example, a 3% solution of copper sulfate (30 g per 1 l).
Simply apply the solution to the wood using a brush.
It remains to provide reliable protection of the wood from moisture. Many recommend using garden pitch, but a more effective remedy is iodine oil.
To prepare it, you will need to mix 10 ml of pharmacy iodine with 100 ml of any oil and treat the exposed wood with the resulting composition.
