Shallots are popularly known as family onions or simply "family onions".

Most often, this crop is grown to obtain early greens, because, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh says, useful vitamin greens can be collected already 20-30 days after the emergence of seedlings.

But there are also cases when shallots are grown for turnips - thanks to modern varieties, the turnips are no worse than classic onions.

It is not only the breeders who are to thank for this quality – it is enough to remember that shallots and onions are “relatives”, representatives of the same botanical onion.

This fact also explains that the agricultural technology for onion sets and shallots is the same.

There is only one difference - shallots really like it when the neck of the bulb is about a third above the ground.

That is, if the onion sets can be immersed quite deeply into the soil, then it is better to leave the neck of the shallots on the surface.

This planting method will help you get much juicier greens.

In addition, onions planted in this way do not rot, suffer less from onion flies and are better resistant to downy mildew.

Earlier we talked about fertilizing garlic .
