One of the most effective ways to combat the Colorado potato beetle on potatoes is dusting.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us what to sprinkle on potato bushes to prevent the Colorado potato beetle.
How to get rid of the Colorado potato beetle
It is very effective to dust potatoes with wood ash after rain. It is advisable to use birch ash.
One kilogram of ash is needed per hundred square meters. Before flowering, dusting with ash is carried out once every 2 weeks, after flowering - once a month.
For greater effect, you can sprinkle ash on the soil between the bushes. You can also treat the potatoes with an infusion based on ash and wormwood.
Pour boiling water over a couple of glasses of ash and 300 g of crushed wormwood, let it brew, strain, dilute with 10 liters of water, and spray on potatoes.
In addition, you can sprinkle the soil between the bushes with fresh birch or pine sawdust.
