Cucumbers are a heat-loving vegetable, but not so much that they can be grown exclusively using seedlings.
Many gardeners sow cucumber seeds directly into the soil.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told when it is possible to start sowing cucumbers.
When to sow cucumbers
It is necessary to wait for the frosts to end and for stable warm weather to set in. But the most important thing is that the soil should warm up.
Depending on climate and weather conditions, this is the end of April or the beginning of May.
A more accurate indicator would be air temperature.
You can safely begin if the thermometer stays at least 16-18 degrees Celsius during the day.
How to sow
1. In the prepared beds, make furrows or holes 1.5-2 cm deep.
2. Then the holes are watered with warm water and the seeds are laid out at a distance of 5-10 cm.
3. Then sprinkle the furrows and water lightly.
If necessary, the beds are covered with agrofibre.
