Raspberries love wood ash, but when using this fertilizer, you need to follow certain rules.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication Belnovosti, agronomist and landscape designer, tells us how to properly feed raspberries with ash.
How to feed raspberries with ash
Firstly, you should not use ash obtained from burning conifers to feed raspberries. Such ash has a bad effect on raspberry roots.
Secondly, it is advisable to use fresh ash. Last year's ash can only be used if it was stored in a dark, dry place.
If storage conditions are not met, ash may lose its beneficial properties.
Thirdly, it is important to observe the dosage. When digging the soil or laying under mulch, a glass of ash is needed per square meter, when using a liquid extract - half a liter for each bush.
The extraction is done like this: pour a glass of ash into a bucket of water, stir, and leave for 3-4 days.
For root watering, the infusion is diluted in a ratio of 1:2, for foliar feeding - 1:4.
