Homegrown eggplants have a nutty flavor, are not bitter, and taste like mushrooms when fried.

But, as the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh said, it often happens that mistakes were made when growing eggplants, which spoil the overall positive impression.

Sowing eggplant seedlings together with tomatoes

Eggplants can be called tropical plants that require more time to bear fruit than tomatoes - as a rule, 100-140 days pass before this process begins. Therefore, seedlings of this crop should be grown from the end of February, unlike tomatoes, which are usually sown in March.

Eggplants need a temperature of at least +20 degrees, and even better - +26 ... +32 degrees. After sowing to a depth of 0.5 cm, the seeds should be covered with glass or film.

If you see that there are no shoots, do not rush to conclusions regarding the quality of the seeds - try to correct the situation by placing the containers on a heating mat or near the radiator.

Excess nitrogen fertilizers

Fertilizing eggplants is permitted only three weeks after the first shoots appear.

The seedlings are transplanted into separate pots, the diameter of which is at least 10 cm, after which they are fed with phosphorus to strengthen the weak roots.

Do not forget about watering the seedlings, which should be regular but moderate. Excess moisture can lead to the destruction of the root system and weakening of the plants.
