Cherry gets along well with many plants, but it also has many “enemies”.
How to choose the right neighbors for cherries, says expert of the online publication Belnovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .
What can and cannot be planted next to a cherry tree
Favorable neighbors for cherries are some stone fruits (sweet cherry, plum, peach, apricot), honeysuckle, elderberry, low-growing perennials, greens, and herbs.
Dill, parsley, and basil will grow well under the cherry tree. Melissa or mint can be planted to repel pests.
Of the perennials, it is recommended to plant lilies of the valley, snowdrops, marigolds, primroses, calendula, lungwort, and violets next to the cherry tree.
You cannot plant apple trees, pear trees, walnut trees, tall ornamental trees, currants, raspberries, sea buckthorn, gooseberries, nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) near cherries.
