Why did the seedlings suddenly fall over: 3 most common reasons

Just imagine: the seeds you planted sprouted successfully, started to grow, and then suddenly fell over.

Why summer residents may encounter such a problem was explained by the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh .

Dense crops

One of the most common causes is planting seeds too densely. As a result, seedlings can shade each other and compete for nutrients. Their roots become intertwined, and water cannot evaporate properly from the soil surface, resulting in increased humidity.

To avoid this problem, it is recommended to sow seeds less frequently and use several seedling containers instead of one.

Poor soil quality

Poor soil, especially soil that is largely peat, can also be responsible for seedling failure. Another factor that can cause seedling death is soil that is too compact.

What to do? The answer is simple: use a quality soil mixture and regularly loosen the soil under the seedlings.

Incorrect watering

Both the quality and quantity of water are important. Watering with cold water weakens the natural immunity of seedlings, and excess moisture causes seedling diseases.

As a precaution, use only warm, soft water for watering. Avoid tap water and do not rush to moisten the soil - do this only when the soil dries out completely.
