Radish is sown in early spring. The vegetable is not afraid of cold weather, and if you delay sowing, you can spoil the harvest.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh , an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", an agronomist and landscape designer, told how and when to sow radishes.

Sowing dates

Ideally, you should aim for the end of March or the beginning of April.

It can take 25-40 days from germination to harvest, depending entirely on the variety chosen and the growing conditions.

Place of sowing

Root crops need loose soil fertilized with organic matter.

Before sowing, remove weeds, stones, loosen the soil and treat for pests.

How to sow

The seeds are distributed in a row at intervals of 8-10 cm from each other to a depth of no more than 1-2 cm and immediately into moist soil.

After sowing, the bed is covered with agrofibre. The seeds will begin to germinate already at 2-3 degrees Celsius.

The emerging shoots can easily withstand cold temperatures down to -3 degrees Celsius.

Care of seedlings

One of the main conditions for getting a good harvest is thinning. Leave at least 4 cm between shoots. Or sow the seeds so that you don't have to pull out unnecessary shoots.

How to water

If the soil is dry and there is no rain, then the radish needs to be watered in the morning and evening, but not overwatered, otherwise the roots will crack.

What to fertilize with

Due to a lack of nitrogen in the soil, the seedlings may turn yellow, in which case they are fed with an infusion of chicken manure (mullein) or mineral fertilizers are added.

And if there is not enough potassium, then the ovaries will be bad. The problem can be solved by timely application of wood ash.

Earlier we talked about how to feed tomato seedlings .
